Obituary for Eleanor Detweiler
Eleanor H. Detweiler, a lifelong resident of Plumstead Township, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Dock Meadows personal care facility, Hatfield. She was 96.
Eleanor was the wife of the late Claude Detweiler.
Born in Plumstead, Eleanor was a daughter of the late Wilson and Catherine Haring.
Eleanor enjoyed living and working on her family’s farm. She also had been employed at the Keller Glove Factory, Plumsteadville and later enjoyed 15 years of employment at the Pine Run Community as a companion. Eleanor enjoyed music and played guitar in a country western band as a young woman. She enjoyed all kinds of hand made crafts including embroidery, knitting and quilting and was a noted baker making wonderful chocolate cake, shoofly pie and apple dumplings. She also loved working in her greenhouse and growing African violets.
Eleanor is survived by two sons, Thomas (Maria Hackney) and Dennis Detweiler and a daughter Phyllis Mikolon (Les) and two grandchildren, Adam and Joshua Mikolon. She was preceded in death by a son Matthew, two brothers, Clyde and Wilson Haring and two sisters Alma Wismer and Fledah Haines.
Relatives and friends are invited to Eleanor’s funeral service 11:00 am Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Shelly Funeral Home, Easton and Keller’s Church roads, Plumsteadville where the family will receive friends after 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will follow in Mechanicsville Cemetery.
