Obituary for James Whitmore Stephenson
James Whitmore Stephenson, age 86, of Chalfont, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 15th, 2018. Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet Alice (Gingerich) Stephenson; his five children, James of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Mark (Debra) of Ashland, Delaware, Lynne Lambert (Corky) of
Columbus, Ohio, Laura DiDonato (Anthony) of Tampa, Florida, and David (Cindy
Cerzosimo) of Chalfont, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by nine grandchildren –
Michelle Stephenson, Jessica, Amanda, Amelia and Mark II Stephenson, Gina and Lea
DiDonato, Charles Gilliam, & Madison Stephenson; and two great-grandchildren Tiffany
& Kenton. He is also survived by his younger brother, William Cordy Stephenson III of
Cincinnati, Ohio. His older sister Phyllis Ann Duff, of Champagne, Illinois, predeceased
him last month.
Jim was a veteran of the Korean War. After serving his country he earned his Master’s Degree in Public School Administration and Guidance and Counseling and dedicated 42 years of his life as a teacher and administrator in the states of Ohio, Washington, Delaware and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was part of an “Open Education” initiative that allowed him to study at Northampton University in England; and as part of this initiative he met with Senator Ted Kennedy and various U.S. mayors. Jim devoted his career to the education of children from elementary school through high school. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather and in his retirement he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Graveside services for Jim will be held at 10:30 am Friday January 26 at the committal pavilion at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd, Newtown, PA 18940
