Marie Ann Seidel (age 62) of Kendall Park, NJ passed away on August 8, 2018. Marie was born in Metuchen, NJ on June 16, 1956, the daughter of the late Raymond Chism and Marie (DeHanes) Chism, RN. Marie was a graduate of Metuchen High School and earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Montclair State University. After graduation, she returned to Metuchen High School as a faculty member of the Science Department, where she taught a variety of courses, including General and Honors Chemistry, Biology and Advanced Biology, and Biochemistry. She also served as a faculty advisor for the Band Front and National Honor Society. In 2002, Marie received the Star Award in recognition of her special contributions and perseverance, which she freely gave to the school and community of Metuchen. In 2008, Marie received the Teacher of the Year Award for outstanding science education, increased student achievement, strong rapport with students, and dedication to her school. Outside of her work, she enjoyed gardening, swimming, and caring for animals. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Marie Seidel of Somerville, MA and her brothers, Reynolds Chism of Harrison, NJ and Raymond Chism of Wickford Junction, Rhode Island.
The memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 270 Woodbridge Ave, Metuchen, NJ 08840 at 11:00 AM on August 30, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
