Obituary for Walter Nicholas "Nick" Waits

Walter Nicholas “Nick” Waits, 76, of Lehighton PA, passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2019.

Walter was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on April 16, 1943. He graduated from Upper Arlington High School and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from The Ohio State University and served in the Air Force at McGuire Air Force Base.

Walter was married to Claudia Gidcomb Waits on December 19, 1964. They shared a loving life together for 54 years.

Walter Waits was accepted into the Honorary Dental Society of Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He practiced dentistry at McGuire Air Force base from 1968 to 1970. He practiced dentistry in Doylestown PA from 1970 to 2007. Upon retirement, Walter and Claudia moved from Buckingham PA to Lehighton PA. Walter was a devoted and loving husband and father. He enjoyed a healthy lifestyle of fishing, hiking, and participating in his grandchildren’s active lives. Walter and Claudia enjoyed traveling with his brother and sister in law. He was a gentle, loving, and artistic man who connected easily with many wonderful friends.

Walter is survived by his beautiful wife Claudia Marie and children Laura Marie, Brian Rockwell, his wife Megan Sullivan, Katharine Ruth and her husband Daryl Snyder; his grandchildren, Ethan Rockwell Waits, Isabella Rose Waits, Emily Ruth Snyder, Madeline Clare Snyder, and Cody Nicholas Snyder, and wonderful family and friends.

Walter is preceded in death by his father Walter Jones Waits, mother Ruth Thurman Waits, and brother Bert Kerr Waits II.

Cremation arrangements are being managed by Shelly Funeral Home. Family and friends will hold a private celebration of his life. Memories can be shared on Shelly Funeral Home’s website www.shellyfuneralhomes.com.
